What is Supporting People?
Supporting People is a national programme to provide housing related support to vulnerable adults and young people.
Housing related support means services which are provided to help people to live independently in their own home or to find and keep long term accommodation.
The programme is a joint working partnership between Housing, Social Care, Health, Probation and the Voluntary Sector. The aim of the programme is to help develop and expand housing related support services to meet the needs of vulnerable residents in Walsall and is funded through the Supporting People grant.

What support is available?
Support services can be provided for long term needs, i.e. sheltered accommodation, or short term needs, i.e. hostel, refuges and floating support services.

Personal charges for services will only apply when Service Users are either not in receipt of Housing Benefit or are above the threshold for Fairer Charging. Click here to view the Supporting People Eligibility Criteria
There are two types of supported services:-
Accommodation based support services provided as part of the tenancy by either a landlord or an agent working on behalf of the landlord.
Floating support is provided to the Service User in their home, however, the support is not permanent and ends when the Service User and Support Provider agree it is no longer needed.
Who can get support?
The client groups that currently support service in Walsall are:
