Committed to Working in Partnership
After a generous donation from the Mayor’s fund WDF was able to take some of the residents of Walsall on a coach trip to Weston-Super- Mare. With assistance from the Princes Trust Walsall a great day was had by all. We also stopped off at the Wheelbarrow Castle for a Carvery on the return journey!
WDF would like to extend our thanks to the Mayor for his generous donation and the Princes Trust for all their help. We would also like to thank all the staff from various organisations who came to support.
Accord residents from Hob Meadow Scheme and Fallings Heath celebrated a win at the Walsall Disability Forum ‘Game On’ Sports event at Alumwell Business and Enterprise College Saturday 17 September 2011.
The highlight of the day was an ‘It’s A Knockout’ style sporting challenge for teams of people with disabilities, each representing a country. Six teams competed for the coveted trophy. Rounds included a circuit of adapted fun challenges, lifting the level, the up & under challenge & bungee box.
Accord represented New Zealand all in black, teams also competed from Links to Work (Jamaica), St John’s and Gateway (Germany), Heantun Housing and Blakenall Satellite Group (France) and Key Ring (Holland). Winners and runners up were awarded certificates for taking part by Tanya Raabe, a well-known contemporary artist and herself a person who is disabled.
The event aims to give disabled people opportunities to engage in sporting and fun events and enjoy competition .The event was kindly funded by Walsall Housing Group’s project NOW & Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd.
The ‘Game On’ strategic planning group which represents a range of organisations in Walsall have planned the event to encourage disabled people to seize opportunities as Britain gears up for the Paralympics next year.
